TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Tuesday morning, a check for over $6,000 was given to Detective David White's family by the Basic Recruit Class 389 at the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy.
Basic Recruit Class 389 started their law enforcement careers at the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy in Tallahassee in early February.
Seven days later, on February 16, Detective David White of the Clay County Sheriff's Department was shot and killed during a raid of a suspected drug house.
All recruit classes that go through the Florida Public Safety Institute are required to work on a community service project. BRC 389 was inspired to help Detective White's family and collectively put together the "Detective David White Memorial 5K Run."
On May 19, BRC 389 hosted a 5K run in Detective White's honor at the Tallahassee Community College main campus. The class raised a grand total of $6,171.35.
