WASHINGTON (AP) - Senior defense officials say Pentagon chief Leon Panetta is removing the military's ban on women serving in combat, opening hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war.

The groundbreaking move recommended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff overturns a 1994 rule banning women from being assigned to smaller ground combat units. Panetta's decision gives the military services until January 2016 to seek special exceptions if they believe any positions must remain closed to women.

Women have already been serving in combat, and dying in combat situations. The only thing this does is finally give them the official recognition that they deserve!

AND I'LL BE GLAD TO GO...its about time to recognize that women are just as tough as men, ESPECIALLY when FREEDOM AND LIBERTIES ARE AT STAKE. We may not be as smart as men in some areas, but when it comes to pulling the trigger on a sworn enemy, WE CAN DO IT...so get over it guys, and hurry up with the dishes.
