ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Free help is on the way for local dog owners who want to put an end to the leash tug-of-war with their pet. The St. Augustine Humane Society is holding a free dog training clinic to help dog owners take control of the walk.
The clinic is June 15 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the St. Augustine Humane Society. The shelter is located at 1665 Old Moultrie Road in St. Augustine.
Certified dog trainer Julie Parker will be there to take your questions. “Walking your dog is one of the most important activities you can do with your dog. It is the foundation of your relationship,” said Parker. “At least 90 percent of the bonding we do with our dogs is on the walk. If we don’t exercise our dogs by walking them, we may continue to see behavior problems."
The purpose of the clinic is to educate pet owners on proper ways to train their pets. The shelter hopes training will keep more animals out of shelters that are already filled to capacity.
