JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The man charged in an early-morning robbery and shooting at a Westside pharmacy has now been charged with murder.
Police say Herman Pickens shot and killed 54-year-old Robert Clark Sutton at Mojo No. 4, a barbecue restaurant on St. Johns Avenue on July 8.
Fifteen minutes after the deadly shooting, police say Pickens shot a store clerk in the head in a robbery attempt at the CVS pharmacy on San Juan Avenue. The clerk survived.
Pickens had been a suspect in the restaurant killing since his arrest in July.
Investigators said forensic evidence from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement linked Pickens to the crime scene at Mojo No. 4. A 9mm handgun found on him matched a casing and bullet in Sutton's killing, according to police.
Pickens has a criminal record dating back to 2008 when police arrested him for grand theft with a firearm. Police arrested Pickens for aggravated battery on a pregnant female, trespassing, purchase and sale of cocaine, burglary, dealing in stolen property and resisting arrest in 2008 alone.
