Photos released of WWII-era explosives found in Green Cove Springs
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Clay County Sheriff's Office has identified the type of explosives found at a foreclosed property in Green Cove Springs.
Several WWII-era military "line throwing rockets" and degraded containers of "Kinepak" containing white powder were found in a trailer on Sunday. According to the JSO Bomb Squad, the white powder is one component of an explosive mixture used for construction or mining.
Deputies said the explosives belonged to a man who recently passed away. They were found by a cleaning crew working on the foreclosed property at 4080 Rich Road.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene and was tasked with dismantling the explosives.
Nearby neighbors were advised of the incident and given the option to evacuate the area, but none did.
