JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One of the seven people killed in an air cargo plane crash in Afghanistan earlier this month trained in Jacksonville.
Action News has learned, 33-year-old Jamie Brokaw graduated from ATP flight school at Craig Airport in 2008.
The local program prepares students for airline pilot careers with a focus on nationwide flying in multi-engine aircrafts.
No one with ATP was allowed to speak to Action News on camera but everyone we talked to were aware of the tragedy.
A few students told reporter Ryan Smith that they started to watch the video but, as pilots in training, could not watch the final impact.
The video has now gone viral. It shows the Boeing 747 stalling in the air and slowly taking a dangerous and ultimately deadly dive.
It ends with a fiery collision into the ground.
Brokaw and six others were killed instantly.
Friends tell Action News, he was a bright, motivated pilot who knew how to handle dangerous flying situations.
The crash occurred near an Air Force base in Afghanistan. The NTSB is now investigating the crash.
