JACKSONVILLE Fla.-- Police say a missing person's investigation led them to bundles of bones in the woods near the 12000 block of Braddock Road on Wednesday afternoon.
"We're following up a lead," said Sgt. Jay Farhat with JSO homicide.
Detectives won't say what case they are working, but if the size of the team investigating is any indication, it could be something big. The woods they are searching are popular hunting grounds, so they are taking their time determining what bones could belong to animals and which could be human remains.
"One looks like possibly a pig, the other looks possibly like a dear and then there's some others that we don't know," said Sgt. Farhat.
For neighbor Chivon Kirk, that shadow of doubt is enough cause for concern for her and her baby girl.
"Wooded areas are good for dumping bodies you know, a remote area like that," said Kirk.
That's exactly what investigators are concerned about at this point, but they have a long way to go before they determine if the remains are human.
Police have suspended their investigation in the field for the evening. They will continue their efforts early Thursday morning.
