JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville man is dead after being involved in a collision at University Boulevard and Merrill Road near Jacksonville University Sunday afternoon.

After the collision, the driver of the at-fault vehicle attempted to leave the scene and then physically struck an officer in the process of being captured, according to police.

The victim has been identified as Robert Hyde, 53.

Reports show Hyde was killed when a driver, identified as Jonathan Philip Lindsay, 20, ran a red light and struck Hyde's vehicle on the driver's side. Hyde was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Lindsay is a JU student.

Police said Lindsay left his vehicle and tried to run from the scene on foot. Officers caught up to him, but the suspect continued to resist, striking an officer in the process. Police eventually used a Taser on Lindsay to bring him under control.

Lindsay is in the hospital. He is now facing charges.
