OVIEDO, Fla. — (WFTV.com
) Channel 9 has confirmed that a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly shot by her mother at their Oviedo home on Monday has died.
Crime scene technicians combed the Oviedo home and photographed the car that was parked in front of the home for more than two hours as they investigated the murder-suicide attempt.
Police said 44-year-old Sujatha Guduru texted her brother to say she was going to harm herself. When the brother arrived at the Farmingham Court house, he found Guduru and her daughter, Chetana Guduru, in the house with gunshot wounds, authorities said. Both were unconscious.
Police said they believe the woman shot her 17-year-old daughter, and then turned the gun on herself. Chetana Guduru died from her injuries but her mother is being cared for at a local hospital, where her condition is unknown.
Channel 9's Tim Barber talked to neighbors, who said they did not hear the shooting.
"It's just crazy. I don't even have words for it," said neighbor Stephanie Booth. "They were quiet. They kept to themselves. We didn't know much about them."
Police said they are trying to figure out what sparked the shooting.
"It's a little upsetting and unnerving. I mean, they are both relatively young, but the 17-year-old is obviously, you know, very young, so it's a little unnerving," said Lt. Mike Beavers of the Oviedo Police Department.
