Police: Suicidal man charged at them with grilling fork, knife
WAYCROSS, Ga. -- The Waycross Police Department says a man shot and killed by officers charged at them with a meat fork and another kitchen utensil, believed to be a knife, according to the police report.
The shooting happened last Friday night at a home on Reed Street in Waycross.
Jack Roberson's family contended officers barged in and shot him. But police say Roberson acted suicidal and came at them with weapons in his hands.
A woman who called 911 from the home said Roberson had been drinking and took handfuls of pills for diabetes.
Officers found a broken chair by the kitchen table.
Lt. Rowell and Officer Caswell were put on paid administrative leave for their roles in the shooting. It's standard procedure after the use of lethal force.
