JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police have identified the man killed inside his home Thursday night.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jay Farhat said officers responded to a call of gunshots around 8:20 p.m. They found the body of a black man in his 20's inside one of the apartments located at .

Police identified the man Friday as 24-year-old Willie Antonio McGowan. Farhat could not say how McGowan was killed.

"I felt sorry for the families," said neighbor Deborah Session. "Christmas is Tuesday and they got to be planning a funeral, it shouldn't be like that."

Deborah Session lives in the neighborhood. With only days before Christmas, the area outside her home wasn't lit up by holiday lights. Session woke up to the bright blue and red lights of about a half-dozen police cruisers. The grandmother just hopes she can keep her children safe in a neighborhood where she says bullets know no boundaries.

"Talk things out, violence is not the answer," said Session.

If you have any helpful information for police, you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
