JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police have arrested a man after two people were shot outside a local Applebee's.
Anthony Simmons, 22, was wanted in connection with the shooting and attempted armed robbery at the restaurant in the 600 block of 103rd Street on Aug. 4.
Police said the business closed at 2 a.m., and a group of people continued to hang out on the benches in front of the restaurant.
Police said the shooter approached the group and asked for money like a panhandler, so one person gave him $2. They said he began to walk away but turned around with a pistol and demanded wallets and phones. When the people in the group said they didn't have any money for him, one person was shot in the chest, and a second person was shot in the chin.
Police identified Simmons as a suspect Wednesday and he was arrested later that day.
