JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting after an attempted robbery on the Northside that left one man dead early Saturday.

JSO homicide detectives were called to a scene at the 1000 block of W. 13th Street at 4:50 a.m. in response to the shooting that happened around 3:30 a.m.

Police say an off-duty officer was flagged down by a man who told him he was involved in a gun battle after an attempted armed robbery. The man told the officer he believed he shot the robber.

JSO says officers showed up to the intersection of W. 13th and Thames Avenue where they found a man dead with a gunshot wound behind a home. Police say a handgun was found lying next to the deceased man.

Police on Tuesday identified the shooting victim as 19-year-old Timmie Johnson.

Investigators say a witness who was sitting in a car with the man who flagged down the officer told police a man approached the vehicle with a gun and demanded money. The witness says he got out of the car and fled.  He later heard numerous gunshots during the altercation.

JSO says the man who flagged down the off-duty officer had a concealed weapons permit.  He turned over his weapon to police.

As long as the story is true then no charges should be filed. Robbers have no rights when they decide to threaten people and take their possesions by force or through murder. The young man was probably desperate but still he should not done what he did, however, it needs to be throughly investigate to make sure it was not murder with a planted gun case.

The perfect ending for this pile of useless trash, very happy to hear the only person wounded was the robber and even more happy to read that he is dead. Wish there were more stories like this which had such a happy ending, as these young, lazy, gangster loving thugs deserve to be killed or executed once convicted of their violent crimes.
