FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- Being in the public has it's perks.

However, when you hold a seat on the city commission, meetings can get heated, and sometimes you leave with a target on your back.

"Because of his position and the proximity to city hall, we are considering all avenues," said Fernandina Beach Police Lt. Jack Bradley.

Two weeks ago, a pickup truck was torched just two hours after the Fernandina Beach City Commission wrapped up one of its meetings.

The vehicle was almost identical to Commissioner Charlie Corbetts' truck. The only major difference is that his is blue and the one that was set on fire was purple.

It's a mistake police said could easily happen at night.

One thing is for sure -- investigators found gasoline on the ground, leading them to believe it could be arson.

"We found a plastic lighter by the scene, but we're not sure whether that's connected or not," said Bradley.

Action News called Corbett for comment. He told us on the phone that he has no known enemies, and despite a heated discussion in the commission meeting that night, he hopes this is all just a terrible coincidence.

"It's my understanding there was a discussion between he and another person before the meeting but I don't think it led to an argument that we know of," said Bradley.

Corbett said because he’s concerned for his safety, he will be taking extra precautions.
