JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A young woman out for a jog Wednesday evening was attacked by an unknown man, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. It happened around 6:15 on Timberlin Park Boulevard, in the Residences at Timberlin Parc community.
"I was devastated because I walk, you know, and that was crushing to hear," said local walker Cathy Michanco.
It's the terrifying fear of many women who run or walk at night alone -- being attacked.
"This was a fast attack," said JSO Chief Tom Hackney. "It was obvious from some of his actions, I won't go into detail, his intent was to attack this woman."
Action News is told she ran past an unidentified man as he sat on a bench. The two made eye contact and she kept going -- but felt someone behind her. And when she turned around, police say he hit her four times on the head.
"Once he strikes her in the head, he begins to wrestle her down and pulls her into a wooded area that's off the sidewalk," Hackney said.
Now Thursday night, the typically quiet community was crawling with police activity. Detectives were out in force. Action News caught officers on camera pulling over a Nissan truck -- matching the description of one police say was here when the attack happened.
The driver was eventually allowed to leave. But, as they sit waiting for the right one, it's a sign of how serious JSO is taking this incident.
"I'm glad someone's on it. I want to know that someone's looking for something like that," Michanco said.
Police are on the lookout for a red Nissan Titan extended cab newer model truck. They aren't sure if it was the suspect's vehicle but they'd like to talk to the owner.
