JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It's a stretch of I-295 that takes many to work, home and everywhere in between. But for at least two drivers Saturday, that trip became dangerous because of rocks.
"It can cause them to go of the road. It can cause them to crash. It can crash through the window and hit them directly," said Melissa Bujeda with the Jacksonville Sheriff Office.
Those drivers told police the rocks were thrown at their cars, cracking their windshields. It happened between Commonwealth and Pritchard Roads Saturday night.
Fortunately neither driver lost control. "They think it's funny or they think they are just breaking a window. And they don't realize how dangerous it is. And it is a felony," said Bujeda.
"It's very dangerous. And that person obviously doesn't care," said Maurice Jones. Maurice is one of hundreds that drives on I-295 regularly and can't believe anyone would do this.
"That would be my biggest fear, if my kids were in the car and we did get into the accident," said Jones.
"This is 80,000 pounds of equipment. If I lose control, I could kill somebody," said a truck driver.
The rocks caused about $300 worth of damage on each car, but police say it could have been a lot worse. "When there is no specific time frame or pattern it's very hard for police," said Bujeda.
"Every time I go on, I will be thinking twice," said Jones. Investigators hope someone who say something calls them before the next driver gets hit.
