ORANGE PARK, Fla.-- Investigators say they welcomed teens into their home with alcohol and now they face misdemeanor charges.
They didn't want to talk to Action News on camera, but Michael Swartz and Jon Harmel both face 60 days in jail and up to a $500 fine, all because Clay County deputies broke up their house party where minors were caught drinking.
"Because you are legally in charge of your dwelling, you're completely liable for that," said Shastin Corona, with the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Corona says this time of year is when she gets the most calls for house party problems.
"Spring break is coming up, so kids are going to be off of school, they're going to be celebrating, hanging out at their friends' house and they also have upcoming graduations," she said.
She warns parents and other adults to keep a close eye on kids in their home, lock up your liquor and keep it clean of other substances at all times, especially when you're not at home. If not, you could face charges just like Swartz and Harmel, and even worse, put other innocent people at risk.
"It's your responsibility to make sure that everyone at the home is safe and when they leave the home it's safe and you're not putting the public in danger and you're not putting these children I'm danger," said Corona.
