JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Red and blue lights lit up the night sky as FHP investigated a hit-and-run accident on the Westside. It happened on the corner of Timuquana road and Seaboard avenue around 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Action News was the only station to speak with a witness on the scene. "He was stumbling drunk. I told him to be careful and I took a rest for a minute and when I looked up, the van just hit him and I saw him go under the van," said witness Krista Lynn Shepler.

According to FHP, 46-year-old Kinley Collard was walking westbound on the sidewalk, when a white van heading eastbound on Timuquana road somehow clipped him. Police say the man died at the scene. "Oh my gosh it was the most horrible experience of my life. I mean the sound was just unbelievable," said Shepler.

Shepler says after the accident, she saw two men get out of the van and switch places. "They just freaked out and got in the van and took off," she says.

Now police are asking you to keep an eye out for that white van. They say the van may have some damage to the front end because of the crash. If you see the van, call Florida Highway Patrol at 904-695-4000.
