Police shooting in NW Jacksonville; Two people arrested
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police arrested a man and a woman following a police shooting in northwest Jacksonville.
The incident began as a report of a suspicious person loitering outside the Cash America pawn shop near Lem Turner Road and Rowe Avenue. The worker noticed a gun in the man's waistband and called police.
Police responded to the store. Investigators said the man took off in a car driven by a woman.
The officers chased the car to a dead end street. Police said the officers ordered the pair to get out of the car.
JSO Chief Annie Smith said the people drove toward the officers, hitting one officer.
At the same time, JSO said Sgt. A.A. Webb and Sgt. L.G. Agle fired their weapons at the car. Webb, a 24-year veteran of the force, suffered minor injuries when the car hit him.
The car kept on going. The same officers, according to Smith, followed and used a PIT maneuver to bring the car to a stop on West 45th Street and Moncrief Road.
Police arrested the two suspects. No one was hit by gunfire.
Police found a silver handgun near the scene. Witnesses and police said the gun was thrown out the window by the suspect in the passenger seat.
