Police will likely carry stun guns in Glynn County schools
GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. -- School resource officers could start carrying stun guns at schools in Glynn County as soon as this fall, according to the school board’s media director.
The school board policy committee reportedly gave the go ahead for the chief of police to start setting protocols for the safety weapons.
Jim Weidhaas with Glynn County schools says the board will cover the cost of the weapons, which is estimated not to exceed $25,000.
Weidhaas says the stun guns will be allowed to be carried by school resource officers in elementary, middle and high schools.
Officials told Action News that the change will be made in order to increase public safety and not due to specific problems in the school system.
