PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- One indication of an active allergy season is the yellow pine tree pollen covering our cars, but allergies are not the only thing swarming our area.
The warm temperatures are attracting insects not usually seen for months.
Michelle Smith has been suffering from severe allergies for years.
"You start sneezing, runny nose, itchy everything, eyes, nose, ears, throat," said the nurse.
Smith now works at a doctor's office specializing in allergies. According to her boss, Dr. Sunil Joshi, this season will be especially difficult for people like Smith.
"The pollen will be present pretty much all the way through May for the most part, before we start getting into the grass pollen season," said allergist Dr. Sunil Joshi.
To make matters worse, the high pollen count is also attracting insects like carpenter bees to our area.
According to Martin Hood, Service Center Manager for Nader's Pest Raiders, their phone has been ringing off the hook.
"We have already seen termite swarmer's actually about two weeks ago which is unusual for termites," said Martin Hood of Nader's Pest Raiders.
While these unusually early spring-like temperatures may be good for businesses like car washes and insects terminators, Smith won't be celebrating any time soon.
"It's very miserable," said Smith.
According to Hood, the early appearance of insects like termites means it may be a very active mosquito season as well.
Doctors recommend to limit your time outdoors if you suffer from allergies. If that's not possible, it's best to check the
pollen forecast before you head out.
