Prescribed burn Wednesday in Clay County
Clay County, Fla. -- Fire crews are conducting a 150-acre prescribed burn Wednesday at the Bayard Conservation Area in Clay County.
The St. Johns River Water Management District tells Action News prescribed fires help prevent wildfires by burning off fuels that naturally build up over time.
A prescribed burn is completed in the area every four years to reduce the fire danger.
Before conducting a burn, crews perform tests to make sure wind and other weather conditions are correct for controlling the fire and minimizing the impact of smoke on nearby roads.
