Prescribed burn in Julington-Durbin Preserve area
PALATKA, Fla. -- You may notice smoke in the air today. There will be a prescribed burn by the St. Johns River Water Management District.
The burn will cover 170-acres at the Julington-Durbin Preserve in Duval County.
The District say that wind and other weather conditions are correct for controlling the fire and minimizing the impacts of smoke to residents and traffic.
The purpose of the prescribed fire is to promote and maintain a sandhill community.
It also helps prevent wildfires and control the growth of woody shrubs.
