ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A prescribed burn is planned along the west side of South Ponte Vedra Blvd (SR A1A). The burn will begin Thursday, November 29, as long as weather permits. If weather does not cooperate, the burn will be rescheduled for Friday, November 30.

The controlled burn will be located along 42 coastal acres between Guana Lake and South A1A in St. Johns County. Neighbors could see and smell smoke from the fire. The burn could also impact Drivers and boaters in the area.

Fire personnel have placed fire breaks around the area to contain the flames. There will also be firefighters, police officers and safety equipment on hand to monitor the burn and help with traffic. Periodic prescribed burns help decrease the chances of local wildfires, and increase the growth of new vegetation.
