Principal charged with child abuse writes letter to families
NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. -- A local principal charged with child abuse sent a letter home to parents, explaining the situation.
Police arrested Ronda McDonald earlier this week. She's the principal at the New Leaf School.
McDonald wrote a letter to parents on the same day she turned herself into police.
She told families the investigating officer had the power to arrest her last month but chose not to. She also said the injury to the child was unintentional and, when an injury involves a child, only a felony charge can be brought due to state law. There is no misdemeanor charge available.
McDonald also wrote there are degrees of offenses; third degree is the most minor.
