I can't believe the House at the State Capital can't reach a decision on the ban of texting. Give me a break! Granted, I don't believe in using handheld devices while operating a vehicle but I would rather see talking on a cellphone than texting and driving. The lawmakers need to pass the ban texting while driving law and NOW!. Look at the statistics. They prove it. It needs to be passed before the state is forced to pass it by the government.

Real, how do you really feel about the texting law? ( jk ).... Actually, not only do they text and drive, I see them driving while computing all the time. It makes me sick! So does seeing them herding around in the boondocks, speeding for no good reason, and standing around laughing at crimes scenes. Simply disgusting. Lose the unions, privatize, keep the good cops and hire those who truly want to do their job. Sorry, off topic.

This state has alot double standard laws this would just be one more. Police will give you an expensive ticket for not wearing a set bealt in car. Yet motorcyclists abound running around without one serious safety device a helmet. All because some lobbiest paid big bugs to remove the helmet law. Which is less common sense? Wearing a seat belt or not wearing a helmet that would save your life should you have an accident? There have been accident in which 3 prong seat belts have killed people it is always covered up. Yet when accident occurs without seat belt it is immedately broadcast. Why is it a seat belt design that is faulty for 50 years is still being used when professional drivers use a different lay out and design to keep them safe? Bunch propganada. The SEAT belt would saved their lives had they worn it. When they find someone dead with neck cuts from the 3 point seat belt lets not air that in the news. This does happen and your stupid not to wear you seat belt but freedom of choice has been removed from you by propganda enjoy.

The news should do a little digging on this law and see if unfair exemptions would be allowed for police and EMS that might text or operate radios and cause accidents. Unsafe equipment operation is the same for everyone.

I bet if we looked closer at the bill it would make it a crime only for regular citizens. EMS and Police would still be allowed to text and drive and if they cause an accident while driving would be exempt from any charges. Once again double standard. I had police officer one night nearly hit me while running my tags a few years ago while driving through middleburgh. One the lights changed and he nearly ran into the back of the vech whle trying to run the plates. Would this new law fault police and EMS that cause accident whlie operating equipment other than that. Please do not respond that they receive training to operate their equipment and texting devices. I was trained in the militray to operate 2 raidos at once while in battle code red with limited lights. As long as the there is no exemptions for government people who do it I am fine with it. We all know that the law really only applies to people who cannot afford the best lawyers. Those of you that think its ok sound off what do you think should happen if a police officer rear ends you while texting your plates do you really think they should get off while if you caught on cell phone it would be worse for you? The laws should apply to everyone not just selective classes.

This law, with its puny little $30 fine, will NOT stop DWT!! We do NOT need more laws and excuses for cops to look for revenue!! A more productive way would be to allow the insurance companies to hit DWTs with HUGE fines, HUGE policy premiums and the right to deny coverage on abusers. Stop creating more laws. Give the rights to the right people and watch people learn to behave.

I agree with you RFM, these cell phone drivers drive me crazy out on the road. I'm from NYC originally and they banned cell phone use all together while driving, and added a $300+ fine along and you will be surpised how effective something like that can be. BAN CELLS ON THE ROAD!!!!!

How many innocents are going to have to DIE before a complete BAN on Cell Phone use while driving a vehicle is enacted? How many of you have encountered a cell phone user yapping away, holding up traffic, weaving or going through stop signs and red lights? What's it going to take to get the laws passed? An accident involving a legislator and/or relatives of a legislator with a cell phone yapper? Hard to imagine since I've seen cars with legislator tags and the driver yapping away!
