JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announced Thursday that they will extend the comment period for the Jacksonville Harbor Deepening Study.

The new comment period will end September 30, 2013.

JAXPORT CEO Brian Taylor released a statement applauding the extension saying:

"This extension illustrates that our partners at the U.S. Corps of Engineers appreciate, as we do, the critical role public input plays in the creation of a successful effort.

While I have just joined the Jacksonville team, I already see the spirit in which we have chosen to approach the path to complete this essential harbor project: with all voices heard and with all perspectives considered.

It is only through this type of thorough, thoughtful community conversation, allowing for expediency yet flexibility, that we will all help build the port of the future."
