INTERLACHEN, Fla. -- A Putnam County Sheriff's Office deputy is on leave after shooting at a burglary suspect over the weekend.
At 11 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to a home on Royal Way in Interlachen for a reported possible burglary in progress. While responding, deputies received information that the suspect was driving away toward State Road 20. Deputy Brandon Culbreth saw a blue Dodge truck leaving the area and tried to stop it.
PCSO said Culbreth reported that the vehicle attempted to flee the area, losing control, striking a field fence, and then heading back toward Culbreth.
Culbreth then fired several rounds, disabling the vehicle. The driver fled on foot and has not been found.
The investigation is ongoing. Culbreth has been placed on administrative leave pending an administrative review of the shooting.
