JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla.-- From the sand to the water, many people gathered to say goodbye to summer Monday.

"Everything is pretty much smooth. No kind of dysfunction or confrontation. None of that," Daryl Brown said.

That wasn't the case back in May. On Memorial Day, Jacksonville Beach Police had to deal with a violent brawl and a bad stigma to go along with it.
Locals say that isn't fair.

"We're a good community. You get a few bad apples. You can't spoil it for the bunch," Mike Jenkins said.

Since then, police have beefed up security and been more vigilant on the streets.
Homeowners and business owners have also come together for town hall meetings.

Jenkins and his daughter refused to let the past stop their fun.

"People do things. Make mistakes. You can't control that. You can't let that impact us," he continued.

Since Memorial Day, there have been no major incidents at the beach. The Fourth of July even came and went with no problems.

Morria Davis doesn't see an overall crime issue, and wants to keep it that way.

"Leave the drama at home. Come and have a good time. Just relax," she said with a smile.
