Rabies alert issued for Mandarin

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Health Department has issued a rabies alert for Mandarin.

Crews found a rabid bat in Mandarin that was also likely touched by a human.

The are of concern is bordered on the south by Julington Creek at the Duval/St. Johns County line; on the north by Loretto Road at San Jose Boulevard; on the west by Orange Picker Road at Mandarin Road; on the east by Julington Creek Road and Aladdin Road.

The health department is also advising pet owners to maintain control of their pets at all times and make sure they are current with their shots.

Stray animals should be reported to Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services at 630-2489.
