JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A few local students are getting the opportunity of a lifetime today. The received a chance to watch President Obama's second inauguration, in person.
It's been quite a journey for 42 students at Raines High School. The group loaded up a bus Saturday Night and headed out of Jacksonville to the nations capitol. Principal Shateena Brown says the journey is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"Just the opportunity to be somewhere, to see history in the making again," says Brown.
Brown and her students arrived in Washington D.C. Monday morning. She says her students are bursting with excitement.
"They're most excited about one just being in Washington and being in the atmosphere. But two, watching President Obama take oath for the second time," she says.
Brown and her students are currently standing in the middle of the National Mall, surrounded by thousands of other Americans, anxious to see President Obama sworn into office again.
"A melting pot of people. The feel of just being one body one group of people is so apparent. Everybody has a smile on their face, everybody is polite its just a wonderful place to be right now."
The school raised $13,000 in four weeks to make this trip possible. The students will return home Tuesday.
