JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Concerned community members rallied outside the Duval County Courthouse Wednesday for Jacksonville's youngest murder suspect.
Fernandez was supposed to be in a court hearing at 9 a.m. That hearing was postponed until February 27.
Last week, a judge approved a group of lawyers to take over the case from the Public Defender's Office.
Those gathering outside the courthouse have one goal in mind. They want to see the young boy tried as a juvenile, instead of an adult. It's something Fernandez's former defense team has said won't happen.
The supporters will also hand deliver 178,000 petition signatures to State Attorney Angela Corey. The 13-year-old boy faces life in prison if convicted for the murder of his brother.
The morning rally was organized by Alicia Torres, the mother of one of Fernandez's classmates. It began at 7 a.m. with a moment of silence. The group also released dozens of orange balloons, representing Fernandez's orange jumpsuit.
