Ray Charles commemorative stamp ceremony
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The USPS will unveil the Ray Charles commemorative stamp during a special at the Florida School for the deaf and the blind on Monday.
U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown and FSDB President Dr. Jeanne Glidden Prickett are two of the speakers for the celebratory program.
Charles, who was blind since childhood, attended FSDB during his school years while living in Florida with his family.
Charles was a 17-time Grammy winner who received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 1987. His many other awards include the National Medal of Arts, the Polar Music Prize, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 1986. That same year, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
