Record breaking runners at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Thousands are lacing up their tennis shoes to take steps against breast cancer. More than 10,000 people gathered at the Jacksonville Landing Saturday morning for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
The event not only serves as a rally of support for those fighting the disease but also celebrates survivors. Organizers say it's also a way to highlight all of the services available in Jacksonville to help patients beat the disease.
"We are looking for a cure. We're fighting really hard. The American Cancer Society is trying to create awareness", says American Cancer Society Team Development Chair Jade Robinson.
Action News is a proud sponsor of event. Not only did Action News Anchor Dawn Lopez serve as emcee, but several staff members participated in the event as well.
This year's participation numbers doubled the ones seen last year.
Saturday's event raised more than $300,000 for the American Cancer Society.
