Renaming Forrest to Westside Senior High to cost taxpayers $350,000
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The cost of renaming Forrest High School to Westside Senior High will cost taxpayers about $350,000, according to early estimates from the Duval County School Board.
The district approved the name change earlier this month for the school named after Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest who reportedly had ties to the Ku Klux Klan.
The school's mascot is also changing. Students voted earlier this week to go from Rebels to Wolverines.
The school colors will stay the same. The changes take effect July 1.
