JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Clark's Fish Camp & Seafood is located on Hood Landing Road on Julington Creek in Mandarin. In operation for forty years, it's a local favorite, well known for the seafood and the atmosphere including Lilly the live alligator. This week the state health inspector found major problems at Clark's.
Of 23 violations, 10 were high priority including:
60-70 small dead roaches were found in the kitchen - they were cleaned up
Moldy potatoes had to be thrown out by the manager
A warning was issued for live small flying insects
Live roaches were found in the kitchen - all were killed and cleaned up
22 dry rodent droppings along with four soft ones were found at the restaurant.Two days later, on a follow up visit, the inspector issued another warning for flying insects in the food prep area.Owner, Joan Peoples admits their most recent health inspection was bad, "I'm embarrassed over it."Peoples says the restaurant has been thoroughly cleaned and they are firing their pest control company. She says, "W
e pay thousands for pest control and yes, it was bad but we fixed it. It will never happen again and we will have a different pest control."
Peoples promises you will never find these problems in her kitchen again. If you come to Clark's she says they have an open kitchen door policy, "If anyone wants to see the kitchen it's open to the public."Other restaurants at the top of the high priority list this week include:
At Vino's Pizza & Grill in Yulee there were eight high priority violations including dead roaches. They were cleaned up.
At Pollo Tropical #106 on San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville there were seven high priority violations including a chemical spray bottle being used to store oil.
