JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A robbery suspect was shot by a grocery store clerk on Jacksonville's westside.
Investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office tell Action News the suspect entered the Holiday grocery store on Shindler Drive around 9 p.m. Sunday.
The suspect allegedly came into the store with a bag over his hand signaling that he had a gun. Police say the man then jumped the counter and demanded money from the store clerk.
Investigators say the owner of the store, who was in a back room, came out and shot the suspect in the chest.
The suspect managed to run out of the store with some cash, but collapsed not to far from the scene of the crime.
The suspect was transferred to UF Health & Shands Jacksonville with non-life threatening injuries.
The money was returned to the store owner.
Investigators are searching for the gun allegedly used by the suspect in the robbery. They are also looking into whether this robbery is linked to others
that happened over the weekend.
