JACKSONVILLE -- Expect "Sandy" to increase our winds this week, especially near the coast.
The exact track of Tropical Storm Sandy will determine the extent of the impact across the First Coast. The likely scenario is for Sandy to be a tropical storm moving across the Bahamas. It is then forecast to turn northeast away from the Florida peninsula later this week.
Small craft should exercise caution today and Wednesday. Deteriorating conditions are expected on the ocean through the weekend. Large swells and gusty winds will generate rough surf and higher-than-usual seas. The surf should peak around 7 feet by Friday-Saturday!
Well offshore, winds will exceed 30 knots and gust above 40 knots at times. Combined seas offshore should peak 12-16 feet late Friday/early Saturday.
Breezy conditions are expected across the Jacksonville Metro area all week, but not dangerously windy.
