Savannah, Ga. -- Freezing rain shut down schools and businesses in the city.
The rain started freezing when the sun came up Wednesday. It encased benches, tree limbs and roadways. One bridge had to be shut down. The EOC says there were no accidents, but DOT crews were out putting sand on the roadways.
The fountain at Forsyth Park was turned off overnight, along with the other fountains in the city. As soon as it was turned Wednesday, icicles started forming. Jerry Flemming maintains the city's fountains. If it gets cold enough, he says the one at Forsyth turns into a winter wonderland.
But a little freezing rain didn't stop some people from getting in a run. While most everything from schools to courts to the local government offices are closed, some say it wasn't that bad. One runner says it's nothing like her hometown. "I'm from upstate NY. I thought it was a lot of hype for nothing. It's just pretty rainy," said runner Kelsey Higgins.
EOC crews have not decided whether to close down again on Thursday.
