General Forrest's last public address was delivered on invitation to a southern Black audience and was one of reconciliation. He was warmly recieved by the crowd and his comments met great applause. This speech is a matter of public record. His Klan involvment was not, as a matter of fact, he was attributed with disbanding the Klan. Of course, using the historical facts regarding General Forrest and his promotion of reconciliation as a balm on the weary race relations sickness that still sicken Jax wouldn't fit the agenda of those that work tirelessly to see to it that racial divides deepen and widen.

To Crazy Boy: I find it ironic that you should bring up the KKK when attempting to malign Nathan Forrest, especially when a lifelong Democrat named Robert Byrd, who first served as a Congressman from W. Virgina from '53 - '59 then in the U.S. Senate from '59 - 2010 was a recruiter for the KKK. And then conveniently neglected that none other than Democrat Senator Al Gore Sr. fought tooth and nail against the passage of the Civil Rights Bill of 1964...........The Democrats were the party of the Klan and the Klan was the strong arm group of the Democrat party whose job was to intimidate blacks and Republicans in order to prevent them from voting.................But you knew that!.....LOL!

To TeaPartyNut: First off, your ignorance of history shows you are not a member of the anti-govt. expansion movement but rather an ignorant liberal trying to cast aspersions on that group. But I digress, how can an individual such as Nathan Forrest, a General in the Confederate army, be considered a traitor to the country when the alledged “country” was divided between the north and the south? You too are clueless about history.

In order to end the war Grant burned southerners out of their homes during the onset of winter. He was reluctant to face southerners on the field of battle as they were stubborn, determined, and when numbers were equal easily beat the Union troops in battle. Lincoln signed of on the plan. That is to Union forces decided the best way to win a war was to burn women and children out their homes during the oncoming of winter. Yet why is they expected their cities to be treated decently when they lost them at the start of the war? Would we not today call burning women and children out their homes while their husband and fathers away an act of cowardice? Why are there schools named after Grant and Lincoln then? Oh I forget only one side did inhumane things during the war. This is not about history but propaganda at it's finest.

Once again liberal self-righteousness rears its ugly head. After all these years that the school has been in existence, suddenly someone named Ty Richmond has decided to exercise his right to “not be offended”. Where were you five years ago Mr. Richmond, why weren’t you offended then? I suspect that Mr. Richmond had to actually do a Google search to find out who Nathan Bedford Forrest was and then convince an equally ignorant school board that such an individual should not have a school named after him. The school board was likely just as ignorant of the War Between the States as it was of Bedford. As for Board Member Jason Fisher and his comment “We need to make today about honoring the future, which is our children.” I would say to him “To ignore the past is to repeat it.” So who are the next targets on Mr. Richmond’s quest for fame and stardom, Washington, Lincoln, Madison……….?

When white people do something bad to people. Blacks want their names removed from history, monuments ,etc. What about when black people do wrong ? Michael Jackson victimized young boys without fathers pretending to be helping person. The ELMO actor flew young boys to his apartment in NY to be father figure to them. Somehow he thinks father figure means having sex with 15 year olds keeping them around till they turn 18 or 19 then getting a new boyfriend. Neither one these men works have been struck down. Every day I hear MJ music on radio station I have to change the station. ( I used to be fan of his music but after reading the stories of the boys that came forward, and MJ refusal to get chaperones, refusing to touch any of his wives, insisting he was not bleaching his skin. I determined he was lying about abusing those boys). If you like the name of the school stand up, and have recall election for the school board insist the super must be fired after the board is removed, or standby and do nothing as men who fought bravely for the wrong cause are destroyed by pure hate propaganda.

Well then, since the KKK was invented by the Southern Democrat Party whose mission was to terrorize freed slaves, republican party black candidates and any Republicans who sympathized with them... lets just change the name of EVERY institution, street and honorarium that bears any and ALL names of a Democrat, Liberal or progressive whether it be a scum-bag politician or private individual. Or better yet... let’s just dump the name “Democrat” altogether so we don’t have to burden our youth with such racist murderous history the Democrat Party is guilty of. America is too much of a beautiful country to have that ugly blemish! I mean... isn't that the same thing these school board idiots are doing? Changing history with a feel-good-warm-and-fuzzy name-change? What’s fair is fair! Geeez... get over it Libtards!

It seem a group of people want to wipe out every ones history from their point of view, but how far back are they willing to erase? seems to me if your true to your cause you'd have to take this all the way. so if we're here because we're offended about some name then I'm offended at the term AFRICAN-AMERICAN which are you? either pack or shut up. I had nothing to do with the Klan or slavery but it's thrown in our faces every time your not happy. I'm not happy with HUD , food stamps , welfare , Obama phones. stand up step up earn what it is you want and quit thinking and saying its owed to you AND I guess Robert E. Lee high schools NEXT he was a confederate general for the south (you know those people who liked slavery)
