PALATKA, Fla. -- David Wade gave Action News the cell phone video of his daughter being beaten in the hallway of Palatka High School. It happened Nov. 6. He says the video was shot by another student.
Wade's 14-year-old daughter was left with a black eye and a cut lip.
"When I picked her up, there was hair all over the floor. She was bleeding. Her face was swelling up," he said.
He called the video a trophy for the aggressor. He said he tried to file criminal charges against her; and to get a restraining order, but was told there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute her.
That left punishment up to the school, and he said the school failed him. He said the aggressor was suspended for only four days, when she should have been suspended for ten, as outlined in the student code of conduct.
Wade said, "I didn't want to put this little girl in jail or prison or anything else, because she is just a little girl."
He said he's appealed to the school board. Calling that process tainted, he has now filed complaints with the Department of Education.
He said he just wants the aggressor to serve that 10-day suspension, so she doesn't think she can get away with it again.
Action News went to both the school and the school district looking for answers. Palatka High School referred us to the district, and we are still waiting for a response.
