HILLIARD, Fla. -- Investigators continue their search for a suspected arsonist they believe is responsible for torching cars and houses.
A recent house fire on Orange Street prompted local law enforcement to investigate whether t's connected to a rash of fires intentionally set.
"I was thinking the fire bug struck again. That's the first thing that entered my mind," said Paul Krotzer, who lives in Hilliard.
Turns out, the State Fire Marshal thought that, too. Although that fire's cause is likely accidental, investigators initially pinpointed a few red flags for arson.
Action News first told you about a serial arsonist who torched several cars back in April.
We did some digging and found out crews responded to eight suspected arsons in the past four months.
The problem is growing, according to the local Fire and Rescue Unit. A fire captain told Action News that someone is now targeting homes in Hilliard.
"It's almost along the same lines of domestic terrorism because that's what it is," said Capt. Michael Ebbins. "We approach the scenes and we're trying to look for suspicious activity or anything that looks out of place to keep us protected as well as the citizens."
Investigators are now trying to figure out if one person or a group is responsible. "I hope they get them soon, before they strike again around here," said Krotzer.
There's an $11,000 reward for anyone who submits a tip that leads to an arrest.
