FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- The search for a missing teen fisherman has been called off.
Last Thursday, 17-year-old Caster Nova Gray of Nashville, Ga. was fishing near Fort Clinch when he apparently stepped into the deep water of the channel and was swept under water by the strong currents. Friends tried to save him, but the strong water kept them from being able to help.
Law enforcement officers from the Fernandina Beach Police Department, Nassau County Sheriff's Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, Camden County Georgia Sheriff's Office, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the U.S. Coast Guard searched for Gray.
Several law enforcement agencies continued to search through Monday afternoon. The search has now been suspended. Officers will continue to be alert for any evidence that might lead to Gray's recovery. Authorities believe he has drowned.
