JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Monday was the second day Sean McMurray put on his shorts and T-shirt instead of his work clothes to go to Mayport. It's the second week of required furloughs from the U.S. Department of Defense, and his family is already feeling the effects.

"We had a vacation planned so the timing of it is a little odd, so with a pay cut coming and a planned vacation it's going to be a challenge if it continues," he said.

But McMurray hopes to hear good news Tuesday from U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, who is due at NAS Jax to address concerns in a town-hall meeting.

"If he's going to address everybody then perhaps he's going to resolve the long-term duration of furlough," he said.

He has a few questions for Hagel while he's in town.

"I would ask him what steps is he taking to make the organization more efficient so we have the right number of employees and we don't have to have concern about a furlough in the future," said McMurray.

Gov. Rick Scott is also demanding answers from the Department of Defense about the foolishness of furloughs. He is slated to have a separate conference with them tomorrow.

"Hopefully they're going to say 'we made a mistake we're not going to furlough the National Guard during hurricane season," said Scott.

Hagel is slated to speak at NAS JAX on Tuesday. Ander Crenshaw is also expected to be there.
