COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Emergency management leaders in Columbia County are planning to hold a security drill at a local middle school. The drill will be held Wednesday, March 13, at Richardson Middle School.

Local law enforcement, medical personnel, emergency management and other first responders will practice how each group would respond to a mass shooting at a school.

Neighbors in the area will see many emergency workers at Richardson Middle School on that day. No real weapons will be used in the training. Crews will be using simulated weapons and ammunition.

Neighbors are being asked to avoid the area as much as possible from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., so they don't interfere with the drill.
