JACKSONVILLE Fla.-- First Class Petty Officer Randy Wolffis has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
"I couldn't ask for more," he told Action News.
He's got a new roof over his head, a new job as a chef, a handshake from Sen. Bill Nelson and a turkey dinner from the Jaguars, all thanks to the Allied Veterans Center.
"They welcomed me with open arms and six months later I'm here. That's amazing," said Wolffis.
Today marks Wolffis's graduation from the center's reintegration program, helping veterans get back on their feet and back into the workforce. Like so many veterans, Wolffis's transition to civilian life was anything but easy. His PTSD was so bad, he attempted suicide.
"My life got basically turned upside down," he said.
Sen. Bill Nelson was there to honor his accomplishment, and hand him his diploma.
"It's a good ending to a sad story that is repeated every day with these veterans coming home," said Nelson. "This is one life that will end up being a very productive life."
A productive life he hopes to share with hundreds of other local veterans still struggling.
"To the veterans, please come here if you need help they will help you tremendously," he said.
