ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Dozens of families were left stranded and having to dish out hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, after someone slashed more than 100 tires in their neighborhood.
The serial slasher made a wreck of all three of CJ Reed's family cars early Sunday morning.
"It's unbelievable, it's not right at all," said CJ Reed.
According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, 28 vehicles at 17 homes, mostly located on Pennan Place and Fenton Avenue, were damaged. A total of 101 tires were sliced.
"It's an expensive thing, my four tires are going to be over $700 and that's not including the towing of the car," said one victim who preferred not to be identified for fear of retaliation from whomever is behind the slashings.
"Who would get a thrill of slashing tires in this community?," asked the homeowner.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office estimates the cost to replace the damaged tires will be more than $22,000.
Neighbors say, until whoever is responsible gets caught, they're not going to take any chances.
"I didn't go to bed 'till three last night because I was watching out my window," said Reed.
If you have any information on the suspect or suspects behind this crime you're asked to call Detective Sargent Mike Strausbaugh at 904-209-2141.
