ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A St. Johns County judge has sentenced a convicted felon to 20 years in prison after he fought and bit two deputies who tried to arrest him in March.

Police say 41-year-old Brian Kelly was being arrested by two deputies back in March. Kelly resisted by biting a deputy's forearm until it bled. He also hit and kicked another deputy who was trying to restrain him.

The trial took just three days for a jury to find him guilty on Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting Arrest with Violence.

Kelly was released from prison last August for the sale of cocaine and a sexual offense that forced him to register as a sex offender.

In addition to the 20 years in state prison, the judge also gave him 10 years of probation.
