JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--
A sex offender was arrested for posing as a lawyer.Police say Duriel Roberts tried to con people into believing he was a lawyer. He offered his services to Jonell, and she almost believed his story.
Jonell didn't want her identity to be known. She met Roberts in the courthouse last week. "He was nicely dressed, had the language. He came with files," said Jonell.
She knew things were a little fishy when he kept dropping the price. "He went from 1,800 to 500 to 300 dollars." She also says he wouldn't meet her at an office and he'd only take cash. So, she met Roberts inside the Hyatt Hotel to go over the her case and was supposed to give him money, but she called police instead. Then found out he wasn't a lawyer, but a sex offender.
Action News found his record on the Florida sex offender registry. The site says he sexually battered a person over the age of 12 who has a mental disability. Jonell says he even made advances towards her. She's just glad she didn't give him any money.
Roberts is currently in the Duval County Jail.
