JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford told Action News his brother, Hubert Rutherford, did not and will not receive any special treatment after an arrest stemming from an incident earlier this month.

“I was informed that he was arrested and what the charges were and he is being processed like anybody else would be handled,” the sheriff said.

Hubert Rutherford is accused of hitting his daughter during an argument at a Westside home. Officers found a hand-shaped red mark on the left side of the victim’s face and red scratches on her neck, according to a police report obtained by Action News.

Rutherford is still being held on $80,000, and the sheriff has no plans to bail him out.

He committed the crime, he'll pay his dues like everybody else,” John Rutherford said. “That's the way I feel about it.

Kari Reynolds, Hubert Rutherford’s girlfriend was also charged in connection with the incident, but has been released.
